The PRE-SEASON:

The Hudor Brisbane Men’s Capitals have recently finished a grueling pre-season schedule under Head Coach Geoff Tarrant which included 12 pre-season games. The Capitals went 12-0 in pre-season play, including road win’s v BigV runner up McKinnon Cougars, SEABL’s Brisbane Spartans and cross town rival the Ipswich Force. The Capitals finalized their pre-season last Saturday v Ipswich Force at NAB Stadium in front of a 300 strong crowd.

ROUND 1 v Bundaberg Bulls:

In the 2015 Season, the Bulls finished 13th in the regular season with a 2 – 15 record. Over the past four seasons, Bundaberg has been one of just four teams in the league that have had two wins against the Caps in the same regular season, achieving this feat in 2014.

Series Record: Since 2012, the Caps have played the Bulls on eight (8) occasions, and lead the series 5 - 3; including victories in the last two contests.

Last Meeting: The Caps last played the Bulls in Rd 10, 2015 at home. The Caps took the win 133 – 85 after trailing by 5pts at the half (55-60). The Caps shifted gear in the second half which included a scoring explosion, 78 - 25.

INTERIOR BATTLE:

A key battle in the game between Brisbane and Bundaberg will take place on the boards. The Bears boast one of the most consistently dominating rebounders in recent QBL history – Willie Shackleford – who has shown no mercy across the league with his impact on the possession game. Rebounding has been an area of focus for the Caps in the pre-season and will be tested in this contest Saturday night.

HOME SWEET HOME at the DOME:

Last season, the Caps averaged 98.4ppg and allowed just 78.3ppg at "Auchendome" during the regular season. Currently the Hudor Brisbane Men’s Capitals are on a 10 home game regular and postseason win streak, last losing at NAB Stadium in Round 1 of the 2015 Season against northern powerhouse – Cairns Marlins – in a tight 73-72 contest.

RUN and GUN:

The Caps have returned all members of last season’s team that fought Mackay across all three games of the 2015 Championship series. A significant factor for the Caps longevity into the post season has been two-fold: overall fitness, and a hi-octane fast break game that flows from their suffocating team defensive approach. The Caps exciting run and gun style of play has been developed and meticulously honed by coaches Geoff and Mick Tarrant who emphasize the importance of each individual within the team plan. Underpinning the players’ mental fortitude, effort and expertise is their physiological performance, fine-tuned under the watchful eye of High Performance Coach, Byron Williams at Acceleration Australia.

SBL Men: The Brisbane Capitals SBL Men’s team also plays at NAB Stadium this weekend in their Season opener v the Gold Coast. Tipoff is scheduled for 4pm.

Go CAPS!!
