Molten Waratah League Championship Men MVP Alex Opacic!

Bankstown Basketball Association star Alex Opacic has clawed his way into the history books after claiming the 2015 Molten Waratah League Most Valuable Player Award for the Championship Men’s division. Alex who plays in the center position also led the league in scoring with an average of 23.4 points per game. He also had 12 double-doubles this season, including an amazing performance in which he scored 44 points against the Penrith Panthers.

“Thank you to my team mates, coaching staff and management of Bankstown for supporting the team. The passion of the team has been a commitment to winning and that what has led us to compete this weekend” Alex Opacic.


Championship Women

Molten Waratah League Championship Women MVP Tahlia Tupaea!

Penrith Basketball Association pocket rocket Tahlia Tupaea has been voted by her peers as the league’s Most Valuable Player for the Championship Women’s division.

Even with an injury during the season, Tahlia still made an impression in the league with an average of 21.8 points per game along with 2 double-doubles. Tahlia missed a number of games for the Panthers towards the backend of the season due to her selection in the Australian U19’s team the Gems, who recently won bronze at the FIBA U19 World Championships.

Division 1 Men

Molten Waratah League Div 1 Men MVP Gage Daye!

The Basketball Wagga Wagga scoring machine Gage Daye has scored the league’s top prize as his peers have voted him the 2015 Molten Waratah League Most Valuable Player Award for the Division 1 Men’s competition. Gage an American basketball guard has dominated the league in points, scoring 595 points in 16 games, with an average of 37.2 ppg.

Opposition teams have struggled to find a way to stop his scoring ability, including some big hauls with 62 against Springwood , 51 against Canberra and most recently 70 in the Wagga quarter final game versus St George.

Division 1 Women

Molten Waratah League Division 1 Women MVP Kristen Langhorn!

Basketball NSW is proud to announce Queanbeyan Yowies forward Kristen Langhorn as the 2015 Molten Waratah League Most Valuable Player for the Division 1 Women’s competition.

Kristen is the league’s leading point scorer with an average of 23.1 points per game, her season high score was against Bathurst were she dropped 38 points. In the 2014 season, Kristen was rewarded with her inclusion in the All-Star Five.


Division 1 Youth Men

Division 1 Youth Men League MVP Sean Weekes!

Basketball NSW is proud to announce Penrith Panthers forward Sean Weekes as the 2015 Molten Waratah League Most Valuable Player for the Division 1 Youth League Men’s competition.

Sean played all 22 games during the regular season amassing 384 points, 5th overall in total points scored. With an average of 17.5 points per game Sean has played an integral role in the Panthers line up which finished in 2nd spot at the end of the regular season. The 19 year old is certainly a player to watch, the MVP of the Division 1 Youth League competition will sit nicely next to the awards he received in 2014, Rookie of the Year Award and All-Star Five in the Division 2 Youth League’s men’s competition.

Youth League Women

Division 1 Youth Women League MVP Charlie Evans

Central coast guard Charlie has been voted by her peers as the league’s Most Valuable Player for the Youth League Women’s competition.

Charlie who averaged 19.6 for the season in scoring, highest for the league and was 2nd top points scorer overall.

“It is an honour to receive the MVP award. I would like to thank my coach Drew, our manager Lee and my fantastic team mates for all their efforts this season. I'd also like to thank Basketball NSW for the opportunity to play in the YLW competition.” Charlie Evans

 

Division 2 Youth League Men

Molten Waratah League Div 2 Youth men MVP Zachary Pitt!

Manly Warringah Basketball Association Zachary Pitt has scored the league’s highest prize as he has been voted as the 2015 Molten Waratah League’s Most Valuable Player for the Division 2 Youth League Men’s competition. The 20 year old forward led his team in scoring with 233 points in 16 games, with an average of 14.6 points per game.

A double-double is defined as a performance in which a player accumulates a double-digit number total in two of five statistical categories—points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots—in a game.
