Rockhampton to Host WNBL Game
Rockhampton Basketball has secured a major win by being awarded a regular season bout between the defending WNBL champion Dandenong Rangers and the Logan Thunder on Fri 2nd November.
The round 5 match marks the first time Rockhampton has hosted an in-season national league game in either the men or women and has the added bonus of boasting the 2012 champion Ranger team.
“To have a regular season WNBL game is a fantastic opportunity for the club and community,” said RBI General Manager Heath Millar, “but to also host the defending WNBL champions is an added bonus and attraction for the local fans.”
“After the success of the Rockhampton Cyclones this season and the fan support female basketball received this year this game will showcase what the next level of women’s basketball has to offer in the WNBL which is recognised as a strong league world over.”
The Dandenong team boasts two London Olympians in Kathleen Macleod & Jenna O'Hea along with a very strong roster featuring many young talented players off the bench.
Logan thunder have turned over several players in the off-season on top of losing their head coach but despite this only went down by three to a highly rated Townsville Fire team last weekend.
Tickets go on sale Monday 15th October at Rockhampton Basketball at $10 for Adults and $5 for children.
Tipoff is 7.30pm at Hegvold Stadium.
