How Your School Can Play With The Rockets & Cyclones

Rockhampton Basketball has three great opportunities for your school to play with the Rockhampton Rockets and Cyclones in Term 3!  If you would like to find out more about how your school can take advantage of these programs please contact RBI General Manager Matt Neason on 4922 5544.

1.  The Capricornian ‘So You Think You Can Play?’
So You Think You Can Play is an initiative that sees us bring five of our best Rockets and Cyclones recruits to your school to play a showcase game against your school team (can be a combination of students and teachers).   We aim to provide your school with the full Rockets and Cyclones experience complete with Music and Court Side announcing.

All you need to do is provide a court, provide a team, and provide a crowd (we aim to have the entire school involved), and we’ll do the rest.  We’ll also run a number of other activities to support the main game.  So You Think You Can Play sessions will run on Wednesday afternoons from approx 1.30pm-3.00pm through Weeks 1-6 of Term 3.   Book in your session today.  Take a look at some highlights from a SYTYCP day here.

2.  In-School Aussie Hoops
Aussie Hoops is Basketball Australia’s nationally branded learn to play program, and now you can host an Aussie Hoops program at your school.  Our Rockets and Cyclones will teach your students the FUN-damentals of the sport through a series of fun activities and modified games.  The program runs for 7 weeks directly after school so that parents can beat the after-school rush whilst also ensuring their child benefits from structured active play.  All participants will receive an Aussie Hoops pack which includes a bag, a ball, and a training singlet.  Furthermore all the administration is handled online, meaning the workload for your school is virtually zero.  All we need is a Basketball court (preferably covered, but if not we will make do).  Find out more about Aussie Hoops at www.aussiehoops.com.au.

3.  Sporting Schools Grants
Sporting Schools is the Governments new role out of Active After-School Communities.  The change of name also brings with it a number of other up-grades.  The basics of the initiative are that primary schools around Australia can apply for grants of $1300 per term to engage with sporting organizations like Rockhampton Basketball, with members of that organization delivering sports based programs before, during, and after school hours. Rockhampton Basketball is open to all options, however our main focus will be during school hours where we can guarantee the best quality coaches.

Funding is now available for the program which will launch in Term 3.  The funding pool and the target number of participating schools essentially means that if you apply for funding, you will be approved.  Rockhampton Basketball was approached to run one of the first Sporting Schools pilot programs in Australia earlier this year.  Channel Seven news captured some of the action with our Rockets and Cyclones working out students from Heights College.  Take a look at that story here, or head to www.sportingschools.gov.au to apply for your funding.

Building a Better Community
One of our big focuses for 2015 is being better connected to our community, which starts with our local primary schools.  The Capricornian has agreed to help us achieve this by coming on board as a sponsor of our primary school initiatives.  Each year we bring some incredible athletes to this region; athletes who have played in some of the best leagues around the world.  The above programs provide an opportunity to share their experience, their skill, and their stories with your students.  Rockhampton Basketball is committed to building better relationships with your school, and providing incredible experiences for your students.  If you’d like to discuss which of the above options (or all of the above) is the right fit for you please contact RBI General Manager Matt Neason on 4922 5544 or 0439 308 858.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
