Redbacks, Wolves split Easter Monday results (Week 6 Monday SBL wrap)

THE Perth Redbacks' men continued to impress by handing the Joondalup Wolves their second loss of the Easter Weekend but the Wolfpack women recorded a victory to strengthen their championship defence.

The women's and men's fixtures at Belmont Oasis close Week 6 action over Easter were the only matches on Monday.

The Redbacks put in a much more competitive performance in the women's clash to open proceedings on Easter Monday but the defending champions from Joondalup still managed to prevail 66-51.

The win improves the Wolves to a 4-2 record on the season while the Redbacks remain winless from their first eight matches.

Alex Kerr finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots while Ellyce Ironmonger added 13 points and 11 boards. Tarryn McPherson also contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jessica Jakens led the way for Perth finishing with 18 points and six rebounds with Alix Hayward adding 12 points, 10 boards and five steals.

While the Redbacks' men beat the Wolves 100-93 to improve to a 5-3 record on the season and to sit in fifth-place in the standings just ahead of the now sixth-placed Wolves who are 4-3 having also lost to the Stirling Senators on Thursday night.

Stan Okoye was the star for Perth with 36 points, 12 rebounds and four steals on the back of 15-of-27 shooting from the field.

Joel Wagner contributed 19 points and nine assists with Jarrad Prior adding 13 points and Jamieson Lewis 10.

Seb Salinas continued his hot form and did all he could for the Wolves finishing with 28 points and 11 rebounds.

Rob Huntington also had a good game for the Wolfpack with 22 points and five rebounds but they were the only two Joondalup players to score in double-figures for the afternoon.
