Manigault the man for the Giants
Manigault the man for the Giants
Fresh off the re-signing of head coach Michael Haney, the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants have secured their first recruit for season 2016 with the signing of import swingman Kenny “KJ" Manigault.
Hailing from North Charleston in South Carolina, Manigault joins the Giants as an exciting and athletic defensive guard who has the ability to not only hit from behind the three point arc but also get to the hoop and free throw line.
The 196cm (6’5”) swingman started his college career with the Wichita State Shockers (NCAA Div I) and then USC Aiken (NCAA Div II) before transferring to the Pikeville Bears (NAIA Div I) in Kentucky for his final two seasons.
Playing 56 games over two seasons, his final season saw him establish himself averaging 19.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game, leading the NAIA in steals and being named 2015 Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and 2015 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.
He also received accolades as the NABC NAIA Division I Men’s Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and also as a NAIA Division I Men's Basketball All-American.
His season high 44 points lead the Bears and he also topped the team in numerous stats categories, including field goals made, field goals attempted, free throws made, free throws attempted, rebounds, assists and steals.
He had signed with the newly founded AmeriLeague basketball competition based in Las Vegas, USA which was set to compete against the NBA D-League as one of the top minor pro leagues in the country but the league folded before a game was even played.
After being released from his contract, Manigault came onto the Giants radar through Michael Haney’s “Kentucky Connections” in Pikeville head coach Kelly Wells.
His dominance on the defensive end, along with his offensive skills and overall game play should be a great asset to the Giants as they look to return to the playoffs in 2016 after a successful 2015 season which saw them make the semi-finals for the first time since 2009.
Manigault is due to arrive in the gold capital in early February with the season commencing on March 19th.
