WSBL Player of the Week

THE week four Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded Deanna Smith of the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Arguably the recruit of the year, Deanna Smith has been outstanding for the Perry Lakes Hawks since transferring from the Cockburn Cougars last year where she was named in the league’s All-Star Five as a player/coach.

The 2008 league MVP again showed her class in the Hawks week four double header to ensure her new team continued their unbeaten run in 2016.

The first match up of their weekend double took place on Friday night with the Hawks visiting Morley Recreation Centre to take on the East Perth Eagles.

Smith scored a game high 24 points with 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and a block to guide her team to a convincing win 81 to 66.

There is no doubting Deanna Smith is one of the all-time best shooters in the SBL and Saturday nights performance was an exhibition of just that.

Smith went at 83% from the field which included a perfect 6 of 6 from beyond the arc and 100% from the charity stripe to record a game high 31 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and a block.

The Perry Lakes Hawks now sit equal top of the WSBL ladder with only the Willetton Tigers sharing their undefeated record of 4 wins and 0 losses to start the season.
