WSBL Player of the Week

THE week fifteen Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Deanna Smith of the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Deanna Smith put together a stunning performance on the weekend proving she is still one of the best and most valuable players in the league.

Recovering from an achilles injury earlier in the season, Smith was back to her best against the Cockburn Cougars on Friday night leading her team with 38 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block as the Hawks defeated the Cougars 91 to 57.

The league leader for both three-point (41%) and free throw percentage (92%), Smith showcased her talent shooting 5 of 7 from beyond the arc and  9 of 9 from the charity stripe on the night.

The Perry Lakes Hawks are looking mighty dangerous as they near full strength with Deanna Smith back from injury and Antonia Edmondson having returned following national duties with the New Zealand Tall Ferns.

The Hawks currently sit three wins clear inside the top four and definitely shaping up as one of the contenders in 2016.

A member of the All-Star Five last season in her role as player/coach with the Cockburn Cougars, Smith has continued her form since transferring to the Hawks averaging 19.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.3 steals and 1 block per game so far this season.

This weekend Deanna Smith and the Perry Lakes face the Stirling Senators on Friday night at Warwick Stadium before returning home to the Bendat Basketball Centre on Sunday where they will meet South West Slammers for the second game of their weekend double header.
