Stadium campaign - action on Fitzroy Gasworks site

The State Government’s property development agency Places Victoria has begun its investigation into the potential renewal of the former Gas and Fuel site at 433 Smith Street.  As part of this process they have initiated a “community engagement" phase.

They have created a webpage where the public can register themselves as interested. This community engagement phase ends on Friday June 10. At the conclusion of this phase and further due dilligence, Places VIctoria will decide if it is feasible to move ahead to Phase 2.  So it's really important that as many of our members as possible register their intestest and fill in the questionnaire before then.

We urge all members to set themselves up with an account - it’s very easy - log in and fill in the questionnaire.  Please try to fill in all the fields so you appear as the thoughtful citizen you are, rather than as a single issue campaigner. But certainly don't forget to suggest that our need for a multi-court indoor sports stadium is urgent and important.

During May 2016, and as part of this phase, they have also held two Community Information Sessions that elicited strong support for a community indoor sports stadium being part of the proposal.

The consuultants also have a  moving pop-up info stall that frequently appears outside Piedemontes in St Georges Road and the Bakers Delight on Queens Parade.  They are also going to be at Fitzroy Juniors footy and will probably come to a Saturday morning at Collingwood College

We urge any members who see this stall to approach and engage them in conversation about the need for indoor sporting facilities.

If you live close to the site in North Fitzroy, Collingwood or Clifton Hill it would be great if you could get involved and identify yourself whenever possible as a local resident, because we believe they are looking to gauge the reaction of the local community in particular.

We will be calling on members to get involved in our fight for a stadium in the near future - particularly in the lead up to the council election in October.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
