ROAD TO SOFIA - Goannas depart for Deaflympics

The Australian men's deaf basketball team departed from Tullamarine airport this morning, bound for Sofia, Bulgaria to compete in the Deaflympics. Chef de mission, Gavin Balharrie, thanked the supporters and said there were exciting times ahead and that 12 months of planning had finally come to fruition. Coach Lance Wright said the expectation and intensity amongst the group had increased as a result of the predeparture camp in Melbourne. Team manager David Taschke believed that the players were beginning to become nervous as the team gathered at the departure gate.
