STANHOPE v NAGAMBIE
After suffering its first loss of the season and having a week off due to interleague, Nagambie coach, Linc Sullivan will be eager for this game to see the response he gets from his players.
The loss to the Swans was their first in a long time and the troops will be working on their accuracy after having more scoring shots against their neighbouring rival but losing the match.
Stanhope has been in some really good form of late after a first up loss to Avenel.
This is going to be one of these games which will be pivotal in the battle for the top two.
A loss for the Lakers will no doubt place some doubts in their minds, but a win away from home will restore their faith.
The Lakers are littered with plenty of star power right across the ground as are the Lions.
There are going to be some great one-on-one battles all over the ground and the team that can win more of those will more than likely win the game.
Sullivan will be challenging his midfielders to ensure that Eric Edwards, Matt Forys and Jye Patten don’t get the silver service they have been getting of late from the Lions’ midfielders.
Over time, Nagambie hasn’t feared the trip to Stanhope, having won there in the past five seasons.
MURCHISON v TALLYGAROOPNA
Murchison will keen to build on their victory against Undera that saw them return to the winners circle last start.
Coach Brent Chapman wouldn’t have been entirely satisfied with the performance, but happy that they won the four points.
He will be demanding a more even spread from his troops as Tallygaroopna has been one of the big improvers in 2016.
The Redlegs’ hit a little road hump last start when beaten by Lancaster.
Coach, Chris Earles would have been bitterly disappointed with the output from the vast majority of his players in the defeat to the Wombats.
He will be reminding his players that only four quarters of effort will be good enough.
The battle of the full forwards – Brent Chapman and Brett Arho will be worth the entry fee alone as both are in sensational form.
VIOLET TOWN v GIRGARRE
Violet Town will welcome the opportunity to take on an improved Girgarre.
The Kangaroos have been another of the league’s improvers this year under second year coach Todd Woodfine.
The recruitment of Troy Schwarz is set to add more depth to an already good playing list.
The Towners’ have had two big wins against the winless Ardmona and Longwood in the past fortnight, with Robert Staff helping himself to plenty of goals.
The key forward knows he will face a much tougher opponent today and Woodfine will be demanding that his players put plenty of pressure up and around the ball to make sure he doesn’t kick another big bag.
OTHER
In the remaining three matches, the reigning premier will be chasing a third straight win to continue its climb up the ladder when it takes on Ardmona; Lancaster will be chasing back-to-back victories when it travels to Longwood while Rushworth will be chasing its fourth win of the season to keep pace with sixth placed Violet Town.
My tips: Rushworth, Lancaster, Merrigum, Nagambie, Violet Town and Murchison.
