WA Represented in Australian U17 Team

The Australian Under 17 Men’s and Women’s teams for the 2013 FIBA Oceania Under 17 Championships have been announced ahead of the three-game series against New Zealand in Melbourne later this month.

WA will be represented at the Championships in the women’s team with Madeleine Dennis (Stirling) and Megan McKay (Perry Lakes) both being selected following their strong performances at a recent Australian Development Camp.

Townsville Fire WNBL head coach Chris Lucas will be leading the Jayco Australian Under 17 women’s team in to battle against New Zealand. Australia must defeat New Zealand to qualify for next year's World Championships as Oceania only holds one qualification spot for the tournament.

The 2014 FIBA Under 17 Women’s World Championships will take place in Slovakia from 26 June to 6 July next year.

The 2013 FIBA Oceania Championships take place at the State Basketball Centre, Knox in Melbourne’s east from 26-28 September.
