I hope everyone has returned fresh from the break and is ready for the run down to the
finals. It is useful to wrap up where we have been so far.
Kyabram continue to be the measuring stick as many predicted at the start of the season, a
number of clubs are chasing but there have been some up and down performances but at some
stage most clubs have been a chance to make the six
Whilst winless Mooroopna have taken it up to a few clubs and their attitude has been
excellent, re-signing the coach provides an opportunity to continue the rebuild process.
A number of Clubs have improved on last year which is heartening for the future.
Off the field the points system is working smoothly and after having one session pre-season
with clubs the Board will have another session to discuss implementation of the salary cap
from next year. We are just waiting for the AFL Victoria to finalise the framework.
Interleague was a great effort by both the seniors and under 18s and we look forward to
taking on the Ovens and Murray next year. Scott Beattie has decided not to seek
reappointment as senior coach. The post-match feedback on Scott and the program from players
that the League undertook was excellent and we wish him well in his other endeavours and
thank him for getting us so close to knocking off the Essendon District Football League
Therefore we will be advertising the senior role in the very near future so we have someone
in before the finals start.
On the community side one of our two "themed" rounds was held, Blue Ribbon round recognises
the outstanding work that Victoria Police do in the community.
Also in conjunction with police the Cool Heads program will run in Shepparton on 20 July
which is about young people making good decisions particularly in relation to use of a motor
vehicle
White Ribbon round is also coming up which is intended to highlight the role we all have in
stamping out domestic violence.
These community based activities see the League using its networks to improve the well-being
of our community
Finally you may be aware that Simon Devine has resigned as League Operations Manager to take
up a role with the Northern Football League.
"Orbit" has been with us for 18 months and has been largely responsible for the smooth
transition of the League's administration to the AFL Regional Administration Centre. His
competence and willingness to go the extra mile has gained the confidence of both the Board
and Clubs and we wish him well
It is great that under our new structure Grant Wilson has been able to step into Simons role
for the rest of the season and I am sure the transition will be smooth.
Now back to the footy
