After missing the opening game of the season, Euroa youngster Thomas Burke hasn’t missed a beat.
The 17-year- old has held his own playing between half forward and the wing for the Magpies.
Burke is like all youngsters growing up in a small community where he progressed through the junior
ranks.
After graduating from the junior program, Burke moved into the Goulburn Valley Football League,
playing thirds most of last year.
Burke debuted last year against Kyabram and he says he still reflects on that game 12 months on.
“My first kick came after I spoiled a kick from Tom Sheldon and then I managed to kick down the
throat of our forwards,” he said.
“It certainly felt good.”
The Year 12 Euroa Secondary College says he is starting to feel part of the team and becoming more
comfortable each week he plays.
Burke says coach, David Putamorsi has been really good to him and the youngster the next three
weeks will be huge for the club if they aspire to play finals.
“We’ve got a crucial three weeks and I reckon we are going to have to win at least two of these
games because we finish with three really tough games,” he said.
He says if the Pies happen to miss finals, he would love to go back to the thirds to play with some
team-mates and enjoy some success.
