On Monday afternoon/evening, Monday 8th December 2014, the newly elected Board of the Goulburn Valley Football League had their first meeting whereby David Roff from Mansfield was elected as the Chairman with long serving Board member Mick Williams elected as our Deputy Chairman.
Congratulations David - it is believed that port-folios were then issued to each Board Member for us to enter into the new season with our administration to be conducted under the A.F.L. Victoria Country Goulburn Murray Regional Board Regional Administration Centre at Kialla.
David featured in the article on the back page of the Shepparton News on Wednesday 10th December 2014 with the story written by Shepp News Sports Journalist Oliver Caffrey. With thanks to the Shepp News and Oliver, we hereby reproduce that Shepp News article under the headline CHAIR WANTS EASY MOVE - ROFF TO FOCUS ON GVFL ADMIN TRANSITION. The Goulburn Valley Football League's new era continues to take shape. However, new Chairman David Roff is confident the competition will operate as efficiently as ever. The Mansfield Shire Council chief executive was elected at a board meeting on Monday night, replacing Trevor Pollard. A Board member since 2011, Roff said he wanted to ensure the league's administration to the AFL Goulburn Murray was an easy one. "The first couple of things are to get the transition going smoothly and for people to not notice any difference in how the league runs," Roff said. "I'm looking forward to it all, there's been a lot of good work done to get the league in the position it is today. Trevor Pollard (departing General Manager Keith Wellman and the whole team have done a great job over so many years." Pollard was sensationally ousted from the League Board at the Annual General Meeting on November 26th. He had been against the GVFL's decision to switch to the AFL Goulburn Murray Regional Administration Centre, but made it clear at the (AGM) meeting he wanted to work with the new arrangement. A contract with the AFL Goulburn Murray was signed at this week's meeting after being delayed following the clubs delegates historic vote on November 10th.
Deputy Chairman Freddo McMahon chose not to nominate for the top job after assuming the role temporarily after Pollard's depature. McMahon will stay on the Board and focus on the GVFL Hall of Fame which was held for the first time in June 2014.
Mick Williams was elected as the new Deputy Chairman with David Fox, Peter Mangles, Braydon Aitken and Philip Friedlieb rounding out the board. Roff said the League's budget would be analysed to see if initiatives such as the GVFL YouTube Footy Show would continue. "I think there's a willingness for clubs to move on with the AFL Goulburn Murray - I'm keen and the Board's keen to keep building on the existing foundation," Roff said. "The work on the transition will go on and we'll be looking at many things, including the budget and that will be sorted before the season starts." Wellman will finish with the League on Friday, ending a long association with the competition.
Applications for the League's operations manager under the AFL Goulburn Murray Regional Administration Centre closed last Friday (5th December 2014). It is believed more that a dozen applications were submitted for consideration.
