The name Morgan is well known within Goulburn Valley football circles, especially the great Phillip “Toot” Morgan who was a legend in his own right with both Rochester and Shepparton United.
Another of the member of the great family from Colbinabbin hoping to etch his own piece of history is Jeremy – son of Peter.
The talented on-baller made his senior debut for Rochester on the weekend in what he described as a huge opportunity, especially in a derby game.
“I started on the bench and after five minutes I came on as part of the wing rotation and I was able to settle my nerves by getting a few touches early,” he said.
After starting his career with Colbinabbin-Elmore junior program, the 18-year-old progressed through the ranks to play thirds at the Heathcote District League Grasshoppers before spending the past two seasons in the seniors.
So why did he decide to make the transition to the Goulburn Valley League this year?
“I worked at Wards in Rochester with Tank McPhee and I thought it would be good for my football to make the step up,” he said.
Leading up to his debut he said he gained fantastic guidance and support from his coach James Flaherty.
“He spoke to me a fair bit in the lead-up to the game and I also had guys like Ash Watson, Elliot Bowen and my cousin Daniel Anderson give me some advice,” he added.
Morgan says he will relish the challenge of testing himself and trying to play as many senior games as possible as his goal in 2016.
