SEYMOUR V EUROA
The tradition clash between these rivals takes on greater significance following last week’s upset win by Euroa against premiership favourite Benalla.
There is no doubt the win will certainly make others take note of the Magpies.
Nathan Gilliland and the club sat down at the end of last year and adopted a targeted approach to its recruiting.
To be fair not many clubs know much about the new faces.
Anyone who went last Saturday night, including those from Seymour will be much wiser.
The Lions did enough to get the points against Mansfield, but Brent Colbert knows only a four quarter effort will be enough to get the points against the Magpies.
I’m going for the Lions in a thriller.
BENALLA V SHEPPARTON SWANS
We haven’t had to wait too long to see the match-up of last year’s grand finalists.
The Saints take on a Swans unit that will be vastly different from the one that ended forty-four years of heartache last September.
Hayden Best has had to provide some opportunities to some fresh faces after losing at least six players from the grand final winning squad.
Benalla has retained the bulk of its playing list that experienced the disappointment of defeat.
Both teams are 2-1 and this game looms large as they look to assert themselves into the top half of the ladder.
The Swans survived a late flurry from Shepparton United while Benalla suffered a shock defeat to Euroa.
There is no doubt that this game will be worth the admission price to watch two great teams battle it out for the four points.
I think the Saints can bounce back from last week’s loss and claim the win by three goals.
SHEPPARTON V MOOROOPNA
Mooroopna lost this corresponding fixture last year and I know Blake Campbell is wary of the Bears despite their winless start to the season.
He knows you can’t take any match for granted.
Shepparton has shown glimpses during both its games, but Brad Campbell will be eager to see a four quarter performance from his players.
Daniel Willis will be looking to have more of an influence on the contest after a quiet game against the Swans.
He, along with Ash Holland will need to carry the leadership can in the absence of skipper Nick Allan.
Allan is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after sustaining an injury in the Swans loss.
Blake will be expecting much of the same as two weeks ago against the Demons.
The Cats will were able to assert themselves on the contest in the second half and the likes of Daniel Lewis, Shane McDonald and Trent Freer should be able to guide them to the four points.
KYABRAM V ROCHESTER
The clash of two of the league’s unbeaten teams should be a cracking contest.
This is the second of the games to be played under-lights along with the one at Deakin Reserve.
Kyabram has been decisive in recording its wins as has Rochester.
Both have won their opening two games against Tatura and Echuca respectively.
I have no doubt we are going to find out a little about both these teams.
James Flaherty and Justin Sherman will both try to lead by example while Billy Burstin and Elliott Bowen will spearhead their team’s forward lines.
Sam Smith has been a tremendous find for the Bombers and he will be keen to give his midfielders first use of the pill.
Not much should separate these teams in the end, but I’m going for Kyabram by 15 points.
My tips:
Kyabram, Mooroopna, Benalla and Seymour.
