As someone once said “what a big week in football” – and it was.
We started on Saturday at Euroa with an excellent crowd that saw Echuca Under 18s ,who had finished the home and away season in first place , become the first team into the Grand Final in accounting for Kyabram by 11 points.
In the “twos” the bus from Mansfield was full and would have returned to the High Country in good spirit as they booked their GF berth with a strong 16 victory over Mooroopna.
The seniors saw a classic game of tight, hard football as Kyabram got up by 5 points over the Saints.
Moon Oval was abuzz on Sunday at Rochester with another terrific crowd as Benalla bounced back to record two wins , over Seymour in the reserves and Euroa in the thirds.
The senior game was tight to begin with before the Tigers powered away to win the battle of the big game cats by 77 points to book a rematch with Benalla in the Preliminary Final.
There were some common themes over the weekend – great weather, excellent crowds, healthy gates and pretty competitive football.
Monday night saw the Morrison Medal night at Mooroopna with excellent attendance, and a live broadcast of what was a changed format. Feedback on the changes has been positive and some close counts added to the excitement of the night, and we were able to acknowledge performance both on and off the field, and to thank our large group of sponsors.
Congratulations to all the winners and a special thank you to Simon for his masterminding of the detailed arrangements and to Melissa, Bree, Grant and Chops who all played a part in getting the show to go on. It is great to see some new things being tried
Thanks also to Darren Hall and the Mooroopna Club for their assistance.
So now we still have 6 Clubs with the chance to win a flag, with Benalla contesting all 3 Preliminary finals,
Kyabram in the big one and the thirds Prelim, Rochester and Mooroopna in Prelims and the Eagles in a Grand
Final…a really healthy situation.
If the past few weeks is any indication we will have good weather, excellent crowds and some sensational football
I can’t wait !
