Top of the table clash Central Eyre v West Coast Hawks saw the Bulldogs win the minor premiership with a convincing 62 point win over their nearest challengers. A hard and fast match from the outset, these two will meet each other again in the major round, so no one was going to give anything less than 100%. Both sides will be nursing sore bodies after this one. Zac Fitzgerald outstanding with nine goals, and damaging around the ground, Jake Bruce at his best, Lachlan Heath mopping up everything across half back and also on the ball. Keenan Bury again high in the Dog’s best and Ty Habner showed the threat that he poses to opposition in the finals, back from a hamstring injury and through unscathed. Kane Sampson great at full back and Ty Mc Kenna tireless in the ruck and around the ground.
The Hawks lost star mid fielder Dillon Montgomerie in the second half which didn’t help their plight. Mark Dolling in everything and loves the tough contest, physically imposing and also wont back away from verbal jousts! Jake Mc Evoy with his usual dash, Derek Clarke in the ruck, Aiden Whitford dangerous all day. Dale Montgomerie worked hard and Dillon Cabot continues his rise back in the Hawk ranks.
Undefeated Bulldogs have set themselves up to defend their 2015 crown, and still players to return to this side, such as Jesse Stringer, Jared Sampson.
Heart aches continue at the Rooster Pen, injuries last week and again this week, as the Magpies overcame the red and whites by two points at Wudinna. Entertaining and hard fought game all day, with a generous amount of bumps, bruises and stitches here too! This two point loss for Elliston this week follows solitary point losses in each of their last two encounters. For the Maggies however, they can dare to dream of Finals!
Leading the best for the Magpies is Adam Jericho, huge steps in his development this year, fast and determined, Neil Seaman enjoying a great year and rebounding with poise, Remi North, not adversely affected by two month supply of frozen dinners left while he fends for himself at the Blue Sturts, and Lewis Habermann another who is on the rapid improve at A Grade level. The Roosters well served by evergreen Ross Bascomb, hard at the contest and sets up so much for his team, Steve Paul a go to target, Adam Hurrell back from Port Adelaide duty, Liam Newton around the centre and Tom Rumbelow again all class.
The Roosters retain a tenuous percentage only hold on fourth place, but do have maybe a better run of opponents prior to Finals.
The Bombers held off a persistent Tigers at Wirrulla, these two so often playing close matches against each other, this one a relative blow out at 44 points, the Bombers easing away in the last quarter, only 15 points in it at ¾ time. Maybe this also formally booked the Bombers into finals action?
A huge welcome back to Jarden Stoetzer who celebrated with a Best on performance, here’s hoping his injury issues are in the past! Ryan Watson another power game, plenty of it and tough, Regan Mastrangelo across the middle, Mitchell Gum, played a big week of football in Adelaide and energy to spare, and Cody Colbung in the best. For the Tigers, a much better showing than last week and players back, Shannon Horgan leading the way, perhaps almost as usual, as he must be well up in the club best and fairest, Zane Montgomerie good again, Jerel Fromm, Angus Gunn and Jarad Tomney in the best. Its been a difficult year at the Tigers but they have shown glimpses of good form along the way. Will run out of finals chances soon, must get back in the winners circle.
