TWO JUNIOR LAKERS TO COMPETE ON NATIONAL STAGE
Outstanding junior Lakers basketballers Isabella Stratford and Mitchell Hunter have been selected in the SA Country State Under 16 teams to compete in the 2016 Australian Junior Championships.
The duo will strut their stuff at the Kilsyth Association, Victoria from July 2nd to 9th.
Kilsyth boasts one of the best show courts in Australia, the Hugh McMenamen Court, named after a former President of the SEABL.
These Championships allow young Australian basketballers to display their talents against the best athletes in their age group from across the country and provide a pathway to progress through junior and youth programs to one day hopefully representing Australia.
The Under 16 Women’s Trophy is named after Queensland Coaching legend, Norma Connelly and the Men’s after Robert Young, one of the most influential figures in Queensland basketball.
The teams will also be competing for the Trish Fallon Fair Play Award.
Champions in 2015 both came from Queensland, North went to the Men and South to the Women.
Talented Emily Winter of Millicent and Matt Black of Naracoorte are also members of the respective state teams. Lakers players, Madisyn Freeman and Waiata Jennings are reserves for the Women’s state team.
Millicent Basketball Manager, Peter Seebohm is Assistant to Women’s Head Coach, Trudy Ireland while Mount Gambier’s Melissa Rathjen is the Women’s Team Manager
