Minister Launches Local Community Campaigns

Hoops 4 Health Aboriginal Corporation has secured funding from the Department of Health and Ageing to conduct the "Live Longer Hoops 4 Health Challenge" in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The funding was through the Local Community Campaigns as part of the Indigenous Chronic Disease Package and to raise peoples' awareness of the effects of alcohol, smoking, better nutrition and benefits of physical activity.

The first "Live Longer Hoops 4 Health Challenge" will take place in October this year and will feature teams from remote communities in the Northern Territory coming in to Darwin to participate in the event.

Hoops 4 Health youth in attendance at the launch included:

Tiarne Clarke, Jalen Clarke,Corey Kurnoth, Courtney Althouse, Thomas Clarke, Joseph Althouse, Tayha Duggan, Molly Althouse, Justine Schmidt and Tyrone Bain Mamarika.

And we can't forget our mascot, Hooper!
