Moonlights Delights
220 people from Darwin, Palmerston, Minjalang and Warruwi attended the event.
It was interactive with players involving youth who were spectators to participate and an impromptu game was held with the youth. Hoops 4 Health regulars, Andre Moore, Deba George and Rodney O'Verby attended the event. They combined with Touch Football Champion, Bo De La Cruz and local Darwin basketball players to put on the extravaganza.
To encourage awareness of chronic disease stalls were set up around the basketball court at lake Leanyer by:
- Danila Dilba (promoting awareness of the effects of smoking).
- CAAPS (Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services) they also had clients,staff and families mingle with Mundine and other players.
- Bodyfit NT
- City of Darwin - provided healthy burgers, seating for spectators and information on their healthy communities programs.
- NT Government - Dept of Health set up health checks of which I am unsure of the actual numbers. A positive out of this was seeing Anthony Mundine get a health check in front of the spectators.
- YMCA - provided use of the basketball court
Feedback from participants and spectators was positives all round.
A highlight of the night was former NBL Slam Dunk Runner Up, Deba George leaping over Keisha Tinley to slam dunk the ball. This highlight can be found on Facebook (Hoops Aboriginal Corp) or via Twitter (@hoopsforhealth).
