2016 PREVIEW: SYDNEY UNI FLAMES

Last Year: 3 wins, 13 losses- 5th

Roster: Danielle Brown, Kaitlyn Brown, Tracey Carruthers, Anthea Castelli, Hannah Dodd, Kim Hughes, Annabelle Lindsay, Patricia Luff, Caitlin Lisle, Catherine Nelson, Sarah Stewart, Zeena Suavaga, Stephanie van Leewen.

Fixture:
With the opening round to be played in their home city, Sydney will have the added boost of a home crowd to kick-start their campaign and if they can improve on last season and reach the finals in 2016, they will again be backed by a home crowd.

Overview:
Achieving immediate success in 2010 with a championship in the year the Flames were formed, the club has since suffered through a couple of lean campaigns as they have finished bottom of the ladder over the past two seasons. They have an exciting group together in 2016 though, led by three-time Paralympic medallist Sarah Stewart on the court and Alan Cox on the sidelines.

Zeena Suavaga and Stephanie van Leeuwen have both featured in the Australian national squad while Anthea Castelli and Kim Hughes are experienced players in the NWBL and WNWBL that will help guide younger players such as rookies Kaitlyn and Danielle Brown.

One To Watch:
Hannah Dodd has featured at the 2012 Paralympics but in the field of equestrian. She made the move to wheelchair basketball after trying it out at the Women’s Festival of Wheelchair Basketball, an event helped run by the Sydney Uni Flames and she has since featured in the Gliders squad where she competed in Osaka in 2015 and 2016 as well as at the Under-25 World Championships.

Prediction:
Third-Fifth.
