Perth Heats Up, But Grip Goes MissingA frustrating Saturday qualifying session left TD mid-pack for a start to race one, which would also prove to be a difficult task due to a lack of grip around the short Barbagallo circuit in Western Australia.
Qualifying for race one was tight with less than a second separating most of the field.
All teams struggled at times to take care of tyres on an abrasive surface and Sunday’s longer second race will surely be battle of fresh rubber, at least for those who still have some good tyres up their sleeve.
Tony is well positioned given he still has his sprint tyres to use, though the team was busy working overnight to try and improve the car’s handling, hoping to tweak a few extra tenths out of the green machine ahead of qualifying on Sunday morning.
“It was a tough day behind the wheel, struggling with the set-up of the car, but we hope to turn that around tomorrow,” said D’Alberto after Saturday’s race.
Crossing the line in 22nd position, TD finished ahead of Steve Richards, Jason Bright and Cameron McConville, amongst others.
“We haven’t used the sprint tyre yet, so we’re looking forward to getting some advantage out of that in Sunday’s longer race.
“We’re making some tweaks to the car overnight, hopefully with some improvements for tomorrow’s qualifying session and race. We’ll definitely push as hard as possible to get a good result,” added D’Alberto.
