Some more excitment has been added to the V8 Supercars as the new Townsville street circuit adds another round into the series.
'The Townsville street circuit is being compared to the Albert Park (Grand Prix) street circuit. it is fast flowing and looks like there are minimal passing opportunities. This track is new to the series. No team is going to have an advantage over others as we will all be gathering information about tyre wear, race lines and braking markers as we go along. It will make things interesting and I can't wait!'
The circuit is 2.87kms in length and sweeps around the main streets of Townsville offering some great racing. Speeds of up to 252kph are expected, and an average speed of 140kph predicted.
'This is the first round since Hamilton that we are not running the soft tyres. You aren't going to have half the field running around of softs and the other on the control tyres; it should make for great racing'.
Continuing with the format from previous races, there is three practice sessions held on Friday, qualifying and race one on Saturday, and qualifying again, and race two on the Sunday. Both races are 72 laps with two compulsary pit stops.
