Vic State 3.10 (28) def SA 2.5 (17)
2010 surprise packet SA took their first game of the Championships right up to the Victorian side in what was a tight, physical game.
Victoria State won the first centre bounce and looked like kicking into a stiff cross wind was not going to trouble them. Instead it was the unrelenting SA players who concerned them. Taking advantage of the breeze SA booted the ball long and with excellent overhead marking, was able to hold the Vics goalless by the end of the first quarter.
The game was a scrappy affair as both sides wore each other like jumpers. Fierce tackling was the main feature with neither side being able to play a flowing game.
Ellie Blackburn (V) played another outstanding game frequently ploughing through packs to send her team forward and scored two goals. Kimberley Batley (SA) played tough all game and was often found wrapping a Vic up in a bear hug tackle.
SA’s efforts prove that the Vics are not certainties and the Croweaters will provide headaches for other teams.
