A LEAGUE MEN

GERMAN ARMS 76ers v ONKA PIRANHAS

This was certainly the games of the round in the Mens A League action. Onka Piranhas showed supremacy for the first half of this match with some explosive team play showcased with a Devon McGee two handed open court dunk. Piranhas in control at the main break 34-18. The 76ers payer coach Scott Rattus amped up the defensive pressure in the third quarter restricting Piranhas to a solitary 2 points, whist the 76ers posted their biggest quarter score behind a 7point term from Jordan Houlahan. The final quarter was tight with Piranhas getting back on track with Devon McGee and Jack Barnett getting involved with consecutive baskets. Houlahan and Troy Parker-Boers countered for the 76ers forcing the match to be locked away at 47-47 with 14 seconds remaining. Coach Rattus used his final timeout to draw up an isolation play for Houlahan to put the 76ers in front. Piranhas tightened up there pressure by switching the on-ball screen forcing Houlhan to take an off balanced shot that just rimmed out. Time expired on the Piranhas, as they grabbed the offensive rebound. The match finishing with a 47-47 draw.

Leading Scorers:

German Arms 47 (J.Houlahan 20, T.Parker-Boers 11, S.Rattus 8) drew Onka Pirahans 47 (D.McGee 20, J. Marston 12, J.Barnett 8)

HACKERS v RIMSHOTS

Rimshots started this one behind the eight ball by only fielding 4 players. Hackers exploited this with a quick game tempo, and some great ball movement. South Adelaide Youth League point guard Tom Boxer had the ball on a string for Hackers, finding team mates and converting baskets himself. A valiant effort by the undermanned Rimshots with Hackers only getting in frontin the final quarter of an essentially tight game.

Leading Scorers:

Hackers 59 (T.Boxer 20, S.Taverna 14, C.Vears 10) defeated Rimshots 49 (R.Riach 18, M.Kern 15, B.Vincent 14)

MOUNT BARKER MAGIC v ZODIACS 1

Andrew Mason reminded everyone why he was once a major force in this competition, perhaps an early MVP prediction? Supported well by Matt Johns and veteran point guard Jason Warhurst, the Magic showed plenty of class in this clash. Zodiacs went into the game without former Premier League standout Joel Goodenough who was unavailable. Mike Smith stepped up his offensive game finishing with 15 points, but it was the defensive job that Mason and Johns did on reigning League MVP Scott Baxter than decided the outcome, restricting Baxter to only 7 points for the game.

Leading Scorers:

Magic 53 (A. Mason 21, J.Warhust 19, M.Johns 7) defeated Zodiacs 1 41 (M.Smith 15, C. Steinwedel 9. S. Baxter 7)

ZODIACS 2 V ZODIACS 3

This game was the “junior” clash of the round with club mates going head to head. Zodiacs 2 used their slight “senior” edge in this game, coming out of the blocks firing to lead at the first change by 12 points. Zodiacs 3 coach Skeate Bald changed the defensive emphasis in the second and third quarter attempting to slow down Michael Harris and Aaron Morris who were combing well on each possession. At the final siren it was an easy victory for Zodiacs 2, winning by a convincing 21 points.

Leading Scorers

Zodiacs 2 (A.Morris 16, K. van Schaijik 12, M.Harris 10) defeated Zodiacs 3 (Z.Grivell 11, S.Bald 9, T. Gibbon 8)

A LEAGUE WOMEN

MOUNT BARKER MAGIC v ONKA PIRAHANS

This match proved to be very lopsidede with Magic basically controlling the game from the tip. Tenille Searl leading the Magic with aplomb and having understudy Emerson Bowen revelling in playing for a championship outfit. Melinda Todd proving she is the league’s best “Miss Fix-it” with her rebounding and passing game, often finding the streaky Ella Nobes for any easy score. There was very little resistance from any of the Piranhas players, with Magic powering to a 76-12 win.

Leading Scorers

Magic 76 (T. Searl, E.Bowen17, E.Nobes 17) defeated Onka Piranhas 12 (T.Hikey 6)

ZODIACS V MEADOWS

This game proved to be a closer affair, at least until the main break with Zodiacs leading by 11, behind Stella Zizikos who was simply dominant evertime she touched the ball. For Meadows Georgia Martin put up a great fight leading the Meadows team with 11 points, but unfortunrtly lacked support from an injury depleated Meadows line-up. Zodiacs were to strong at the final siren winning 37-18.

Leading Scorers

Zodiacs 37 (S. Zizikos 21, J Brumpton 6, D. Georg-Dent 6) defeated Meadows (G.Martin 11, E.Billing 4)
