Zodiacs 2 v German Arms 76ers. Kicking off this week’s round, German Arms took care of business by defeating the red hot Zodiacs 2 outfit 57-47. Jordan Houlahan found himself in the game early and throughout, finishing with 21 points. Teammate Sam Scott provide an added spark for the 76ers with 16 points, and the ever reliable Scott Rattus added 14 points to round out a great team performance. For the golds, Michael Harris continued his recent good form hitting 3 triples in a team high 21 points, with only Aaron Morris registering double figures with 11 points. The next few weeks will prove crucial for coach Darren Small’s Zodiacs 2 outfit with Onka Piranhas hot on their heels for the last finals spot, whilst the 76ers could be any early dark horse for the title.

Mount Barker Magic v Rimshots. Rimshots put in a disappointing showing against Mount Barker Magic, with a dismal 12-31 first half, immediately putting the depleted Rimshots on the back foot. Player Coach Jason Warhurst was at his dominant best with 17 points, supported well by the hard working Andrew Mason 10 points and Shaun Moyle who put in his best game of the season with 10 points. For Rimshots Ben Vincent worked hard around the basket for a team high 12 points, supported by Glen Landseer who started to make an impact in the second half with 11 points.
At Full strength, Magic are the outright favourites to win it all, but will be tested leading into the finals.

Zodiacs 1 v Onka Piranhas. Zodiacs 1 were pushed until the final buzzer against a determined Piranhas squad, getting up by just two points in a tight tussle. Piranhas missing livewire forward Devon McGee put in the ultimate team performance in this one to keep pace with the senior golds. Zodiacs 1 also missing the improving junior Mason Baxter, turned to his father Scott who found some form with 16 points, and as many rebounds. Joel Goodenough was at his mercurial best, controlling the game and setting up his Zodiacs teammates with a great display of passing.
Piranhas Matt Perkins, kept fighting hard until the final siren with 10 points, but in the end it was the more experienced Zodiacs that got the points in this one. Worrying signs for the golds leading into the finals, they have the most experienced roster in the competition but have struggled to find any consistency at the pointy end of the season.

Women

Mt Barker Magic v Onka Piranhas. Mount Barker Magic were certainly improved this week with a huge 41-point win over Onka Piranhas. Magic welcomed back “pocket rocket” point guard Tennille Searl, who was instrumental in the win. But it was Emmerson Bowen with a season high 33-point haul, that really sunk the desperate marrons. Tayler Horsnell battled hard with 13 points, but struggled for support.

Meadows v Zodiacs. Zodiacs returned to form with a huge win over the injury plagued Meadows who could only field four players, and the final score line was a true indication with the golds recording a 68-33 victory thanks to Kelli Schramm’s 16 points, and Courtney Kretschmer with 15 points. For Meadows it was the efforts of the two juniors Brittany Spooner with 16 points, and Georgia Martin with 15 that attempted to restore some pride for Meadows.
