AFL Quebec Round 5 was played in beautiful conditions last Sunday 21st July 2013 at Parc Champetre. Freshly cut grass, the sun shining, the return of a number of AFL Quebec legends were just some of the elements that all made for a cracking days footy, all of which were witnessed by one of the biggest crowds of the season thus far.
Game one saw the West Island Eagles up against the Old Port Dockers. A win for the West Islanders would have seen them draw level on points with the Dockers at the top of table, but it was the men from down the Docks that rallied hard in the last quarter to pull clear in the end to win by 30 odd points. Toby Campain bagged six for the Dockers while also picking up the TA Pies sponsored player of the round while Duff, Adams, Brault and Priess were solid throughout. New boys Edis and Cunningham were impressive for the Eagles while AFL Quebec Veterans Smallwood, Manny and St Germaine also gave a good account of themselves.
DOCKERS 3.2 6.4 9.6 14.8 (92)
EAGLES 1.5 3.7 8.8 9.9 (63)
Game two saw bottom of the table Laval Bombers face off against the ever improving Montreal Demons. It was a must win game for the Bombers, but it was never going to come easy against a side that boasts the talents of Robinson, Lawless, O’Farrell, Coste and the returning Nathan Jacobs to name but a few. But it was the more structured and organised northsiders (who were without the services of Zac Strevens and Josue Gavidia) that triumphed in the end giving themselves every chance of claiming that all important top two spot. Robinson, Coste and Lawless were dominant for the downtown men while a resilient team work ethic saw the Bombers over the line. There were some strong individual performances though from the likes of Auger, Rotaru, Boulerice while the ever improving Dom Pitchen helped himself to hand full of goals.
BOMBERS 4.1 7.1 11.2 14.2 (86)
DEMONS 4.2 4.8 9.9 11.9 (75)
Thanks to everybody who helped out on the day from umpires, scorekeepers right through to water carriers and camera men.
