After securing their first win of the season, the Adelaide United Lady Reds’ season doesn’t get any easier as they take on the league leading Perth Glory Women. In what should prove to be a demanding test of the side’s progression, the Lady Reds will give themselves every chance of claiming their second win.

Coach Ross Aloisi was full of praise for his side’s first win of the season when considering how the season has panned out to date.

“The most pleasing thing about the performance is when you lose 5 in a row, it’s very easy to go in your shell and not to be confident and crumble but from the first minute the girls took it to Canberra.”

Aloisi believed there were many factors that helped deliver the win and such a performance which included team work rate.

“The focus all week was based on our communication and accountability, with and without possession.”

He also believed it was a result that came after a lot of hard work throughout the year on their fitness which helped them implement match day structures and tactics better.

“Our pressing was fantastic and the fitness level of the girls was fantastic which meant we created very good clear cut chances which we were able to score from.

The challenge is big this week but Aloisi isn’t fazed by what lies ahead. He’s confident the Lady Reds can get a result if they do what’s required.

“We have to focus on our own game, they’re carving up a lot of teams and it means we have to work well as a unit. Hopefully we can take some more confidence into this game and play our style of football and create enough chances.

After scoring an impressive brace last week, Captain Kristy Moore said the team was deserving of its first win of the season after showing some promising signs.

“I think we had really been working on trying to be positive on the mental side of it, we all knew what the game plan was and what we had to do, we’ve had a few tweaks but it’s more of a mental aspect, just staying positive.”

Moore recognises the challenge ahead doesn’t get any bigger than this week’s match but she doesn’t believe the Lady Reds should be afraid of their upcoming opponent. Rather, it’s about focusing on improving what the Lady Reds do themselves and not becoming overawed by their more fancied opponent.

“They’ve got dangerous players, especially their attacking players, but I think tactically wise we can stand up against that and keep being positive about our own talent in our side which we have plenty of.”
