Lady Reds v Western Sydney Wanderers Preview

The Lady Reds host the Western Sydney Wanderers this coming Sunday at Adelaide Shores Football Centre in Round 11 of the Westfield W-League as both clubs look to salvage some pride and get back on the winners list.

Both sides were on the receiving ends of substantial defeats in the previous round of action and will be eager to get back on the pitch and let their football do the talking.

Lady Reds Coach Ross Aloisi said during the week it was a night to forget and that his team had a lot to work on.

“We had some chances that we didn’t put away and we learnt a lot on Friday night in many different areas and it was disappointing to concede so many goals, for us, it’s not acceptable.”

Despite the negative result, Aloisi said it’s all about learning and moving on to become a stronger outfit with some improvement in key areas.

“Firstly, maintaining possession is going to be one key point that we are going to focus on this week and secondly it’s about making sure we are compact and apply the right pressure in the right areas so we’re not so easy to break down.”

Captain Kristy Moore was equally disappointed with last Friday night’s result, noting there were few positives.

“The first 15-20 minutes we didn’t start too bad but after the first goal went in we couldn’t really get it together after that, we didn’t manage to get pressure on them and didn’t play to our potential”

Despite it being a frustrating night as everything seemed to go right for Sydney FC but little did for the Lady Reds, Moore was upbeat for the upcoming match.

“We’ve got these couple of games left, we need to pick ourselves up again and play for pride because the way we played the other night is not what we’re about. We know what our best can do; we’ve shown glimpses of it this season that we can beat the best sides.”

Moore said there were different facets of the Lady Reds’ game that can improve but there remains one critical element for the remainder of this season.

“I think it will be about digging deep and the mental side of it. To come back afar a loss like that, we need to pick ourselves up mentally because we are putting on the Lady Reds shirt and playing for pride.”
