Historic Weekend for the Adelaide Hills Hawks SC

Over the past weekend, Adelaide Hills Hawks Soccer Club hosted the Sydney Hills Hawks U13 and U14 sides in the inaugural interstate visit by the Sydney club.

The Sydney Hills Hawks play in a very strong Gladesville Hornsby Association and the club’s U13 and U14 sides proved to be very strong opposition for all the teams they faced over the weekend. Infact, the club’s U13 side were champions of their division for season 2015.

Club official Ian Robertson organised the visit for over 70 players and parents to come to Adelaide for the weekend to enjoy the surroundings of the Adelaide Hills and for the teams to be involved in a number of games over the Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday the boys played against the representative sides the U13 and U14 Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association as a warm up for Sunday’s carnival at the Hawks Nest. On Sunday, teams competed in a Round Robin Tournament. The U13 group consisted of teams from the Adelaide and Sydney Hills Hawks, Sturt Lions and Adelaide Victory. While the Under 14 group consisted of teams from the Adelaide and Sydney Hawks, Sturt Lions and a combined side from St Francis School in Mt Barker.

There were a number of competitive and entertaining games during the day. The Sydney Hills Hawks ran out as winners of the U13 competition with three from three wins. While the combined St Francis team, coached by former Hawks senior player Alex Field won the U14 division with three hard fought wins.

In what was a successful weekend for soccer in the Hills, parents and supporters of all teams enjoyed the comradery and great spirit in which all games were played.

Special thanks must go to the committees and parents of both clubs who pitched in on Sunday in a number of roles to help to make the day a great success.

Both Hills Hawks clubs are now planning to make this an annual event with the intention of the Adelaide Hills Hawks to visit Sydney next year.
