GRFC (WOMEN’S DIVISION) – ROUND 18 PREVIEW

KARDINIA International College will secure the 2015 minor premiership if it succeeds in not losing against seventh placed Barwon Heads at home in the final round of the GRFC Women’s Division on Saturday.

A solitary point will ensure the ‘Students’ capture the crown, ahead of second placed Deakin Ducks, who are just three points behind the leaders.

Kick off for Saturday’s season decider at the Bell Post Hill based Kardinia College is 1:00pm.

Nevertheless, led by the league’s Golden Boot Madeleine Lee Gow, the Deakin Ducks will be aiming to make it tough for Kardinia as they seek a victory in their clash against the fifth placed Geelong SC Red at Stead Park on Friday night.

With the historical announcement during the week that a Geelong outfit (Galaxy United) will be a part of the inaugural Playstation 4 Women’s NPL Victoria competition next year, many of the region’s talented female players may well be playing their last game for their various clubs on the weekend before moving on to the Galaxy in 2016.

As such, players from all the top teams will be looking to end the season on a high – especially clubs such as Geelong SC Red who will not be figuring in the GRFC Women’s Division finals series.

Two teams which definitely will be involved in September Finals’ action will be third placed Barwon SC and fourth placed Surfside Waves. These two teams will meet in a mouthwatering battle for third spot on Saturday at Grovedale Reserve.

Just one point separates the two combatants on the ladder, with Barwon enjoying a +6 superior goal difference.

A win for either side will thrust it into third spot and the more desirable semi-final showdown with the second placed Deakin Ducks. The fourth placed team will be forced to come up against the mighty Kardinia College side in the other semi-final.

In the only other Women’s Division match on Saturday, sixth placed Breakwater Eagles will host bottom side Corio Bay SC at the White Eagle Club at 3:00pm.
