By: Ben SHEARS

THE SECOND round of the GRFC Mens Division 1 Pool A Finals Series continued last weekend with Breakwater Eagles running out 2-0 winners over Barwon Red in the match of the day at the White Eagle Club in Breakwater.

In an exciting match, Breakwater Eagles managed to defeat Barwon Red and relegate the visitors to the bottom of the ladder for the first time this season. Matthew Elsen scored a double for Breakwater to seal the win. The Eagles are chasing the leading duo, Deakin Ducks and Geelong Rangers, from 3rd place on the ladder.

Surfside Waves hosted Deakin Ducks at Shell Road Reserve and suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of the minor premiers. The Ducks took control of the match and took all three competition points courtesy of a Shannon Kearns brace, while Ipyana Killimbe and Peter Dawe both slotted home singles apiece. Aaron Bond and Adrian Bond scored the two consolation goals for Surfside.

Geelong Rangers hosted Surf Coast at Myers Reserve on Sunday and recorded an impressive 4-2 win. Scott Davison led the charge netting a brace while Ben Noble and Dale Harris got singles apiece. David Cattigan netted a brace for Surf Coast, however it just wasn’t enough for the Coasters to trouble the Dark Blues

Looking at this weekend’s Round 3 fixtures of the Play-Off phase, Surfside Waves and Breakwater Eagles will clash on Friday night at Shell Road Reserve at 7.30pm, Deakin Ducks will host Geelong Rangers at 8.30pm on Friday at Deakin University in Waurn Ponds, while Surf Coast will host Barwon Red at Banyul Warri Reserve also on Friday night at 8:30pm.
