Important Information for all members

Season 1 Grand Finals were played last Wednesday night.  Congratulations to our finalist teams and thank you so much to the referees for these games and to the families who came down to support even if your child wasn't actually playing.    Many thanks to our Games Control combination Yolanda and Wayne for doing a fantastic job all season.   Thanks to Teresa and her helpers for organising the teams and coaches and making sure Wednesday fixtures ran smoothly.   Great to see a number of young keen referees also willing to learn and improve their skills as a referee each week.  Jacky Maggs from Townsville will be coming down to do an education course with all of you in July or August exact date yet to be confirmed.  The association will pay all costs for any member who would like to learn the basics of refereeing.  Thanks to Craig Mathews for co-ordinating or referees in all capacities through the season.

Burdekin held their annual U12 QNJBC tournament earlier in the season with new Major sponsor of the event Zambrero.  Zambrero owner Shaun McCarthy was one of our junior Burdekin Wildcats from u12 through to U18 and has many fine memories of playing in the Den.  We are very fortunate to have Shaun and his family back in the Wildcat Family.  Thank you for your support Zambrero Ayr.  Once again it was a great tournament and a major fundraiser for our small association.  Many many thanks to all those who helped Teresa and Steve make this tournament such a success.

Many of our Representative Teams went off to State championships at Easter in Mackay and came away with very encouraging results.  Big Congratulations to our U16 Girls team who won Gold in the Division 2 competition defeating Brisbane Silver in the Grand Final.  Two of these girls went on to be named in the Qld North Team to travel to Ulverstone Tasmania from the 4th - 11th July - Good Luck Aliza Fabbro and Sharni Wight.    Many of these girls were a part of the U14 Girls team that won the gold medal two years ago in Auchenflower - excellent work girls at bringing home the trophy again.

Our Under 12 girls and boys teams also achieved fantastic results at the championships held in Townsville.  The improvement in both of these teams from their first QNJBC tournament back in 2014 has been incredible and are a credit to their coaching staff and the dedication of the parents and players.

Our Under 14 boys and Under 16 Boys made the big trip south to compete in their state championships.  Both teams did the association very proud, showing the Burdekin grit and determination that we are renowned for.  Well done to the coaching staff and players and parents for flying our Burdekin Basketball flag in the south.
