FNQ FC Heat have confirmed their first re-signings for the 2014 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season, securing Tamas Maffey-Stumpe and Jamie Carroll.

Both Maffey-Stumpe and Carroll (pictured) proved integral to Heat’s outstanding performances in 2014, which included finishing second in the league as well as qualifying for the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

23-year-old Maffey-Stumpe captained the team through the 2014 campaign, making a total of 22 league appearances and scoring one goal.

Heat coach Martin Docherty will again look to the defender to provide on-field leadership, but stopped short of officially confirming him as captain at this stage of the pre-season.

“Tamas’ leadership skills go without saying and unless someone comes out of the blue, which I don’t think will happen, then I’ll say he will more than likely be captain,” Docherty explained.

“He led by example well and truly both on and off the field last year and I can’t see any reason why we won’t want to continue with that.”

Docherty also hinted at a new role for Carroll, 24, whose 42 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland appearances over the past two seasons was only bettered by off-season departure Tomas Murphy.

“Jamie’s got a massive role to play for us next year. With no Tomas or Matt Murphy he’s going to find himself playing more in the middle of the field rather than on the flanks,” Docherty said.

“He’s got that experience now and I think that’s he’s ready to try it in the middle as a ‘number 6’ or a ‘number 10’."

Docherty added that further Heat signings will be announced in the coming weeks.
