Northern Fury ended a two-match losing streak to defeat Redlands United 3-1 at Cleveland Showgrounds on Saturday.

Corey Waples and Michael Eisenhut scored inside the opening half hour to put Fury ahead at half-time before Joe Thornton secured the win from the penalty spot in the second half.

Red Devils player and assistant coach Russell Woodruffe conceded his team simply weren’t up to task against a pumped up Fury outfit.

“They definitely won the midfield and in all honesty I think they wanted that little bit more. We weren’t as connected as we would have liked to be,” Woodruffe explained.

Jamie Carroll fired FNQ FC Heat to their first victory of the season in a 6-3 win over Brisbane City on Saturday night.

Carroll’s haul was added to by Alex Smith, Matthew Filip and Crios O’Hare as the visitors overturned a 3-2 half-time deficit.

The result continues City’s lacklustre start to the campaign, with a single point from the opening four matches.

Western Pride are confirmed contenders after ousting champions Palm Beach SC 2-1 at Briggs Road Complex on Saturday night.

Jason Pillay scored a second half winner to maintain Pride’s unbeaten start to the season and record the club’s most important result under new coach Karl Dodd.

Speaking after the match, Pride coach Dodd praised his team’s improved ability to close out the match.

“We’ve been working a lot harder on retaining the ball which was evident tonight and that was very pleasing,” Dodd said.

Olympic FC secured their first three points of the campaign, defeating Sunshine Coast FC 2-1 at a rain-soaked Kawana Soccer Club on Sunday.

Costa Psaros and Michael Lee both struck either side of the half hour to give the visitors a two goal advantage at half-time.

Tim Hollingworth struck in the second half for Fire, however it ultimately wasn’t enough to prevent Fire from suffering their second straight PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland defeat.

SWQ Thunder FC v Moreton Bay United FC

Persistent lightning forced the cancellation of the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland match between SWQ Thunder and Moreton Bay United at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday night.

The scores were locked at nil-all 22 minutes into the contest when match officials ordered players from the field, with the dangerous weather also affecting the stadium’s lighting.

The match was ultimately abandoned 30 minutes later with no let up in sight from the dangerous conditions.

In accordance with competition rules, the fixture will be rescheduled for a later date.

Brisbane Strikers FC v Brisbane Roar FC Youth

Due to heavy rain the scheduled match between Brisbane Strikers and Brisbane Roar Youth was cancelled on Saturday afternoon several hours prior to kick-off.
