Brisbane Strikers remain top of the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland table after drawing 1-1 with second-placed Moreton Bay United at Perry Park on Sunday.

Daniel Clark scored the opening goal for Jets in the first half before Josh Ahern levelled terms in the second stanza in a stereotypical tale of two halves.

Clark pounced just prior to the quarter hour, turning home at close range a cross from Charles Mendy after the Frenchman skinned Strikers defender Greig Henslee

Mendy spurned the chance to double the advantage later in the half - skying his shot over the crossbar from less than five yards out.

Strikers found the equaliser just prior to the hour when Ahern delivered a glancing header from Scot Coulson’s corner kick.

Strikers dominated much of the second half, however Jets still threatened on the break - with Mendy again blazing over the bar as the half progressed.

The hosts saw an appeal for a penalty in the final stages waved away before shutting up shop to secure the point with the late dismissal of attacking outlet Jheison Macuace for a second bookable offence.

The result maintains Strikers one point advantage atop the league standings, with Jets a point behind in second but still holding a game in hand.

Speaking post-match, Strikers coach Kevin A’herne-Evans said the result was a fair reflection on the contest.

“It was a good all-round game. Moreton Bay are a good side and we know that. We’ve said for a long time they will be contenders this year and they took another step towards that tonight,” he said.
