Brisbane City continue to add to their PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 squad with the addition of ex-Brisbane Strikers left-sided utility Greg King.

King becomes the second member of Strikers 2015 Grand Final squad to make the switch to City for the 2016 campaign, joining former teammate Scot Coulson.

The 28-year-old had played all three seasons of PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland football with Strikers – making 59 league appearances and scoring 16 goals after debuting with the club in the former Queensland State League.

King said his departure from Strikers was a result of squad renewal at his former club, but was quick to add he is eagerly anticipating the challenge of a new environment next season.

“It’s a situation that was a little bit out of my hands and some of the things that Strikers are looking at implementing have probably resulted in my position not being the same as it has been over the past four years,” King explained.

“But it has given me an opportunity now to look at a new club in the NPL and start afresh. Everything at City seems to be on the up and it seems to be the right place for me to move forward next year.”

King said his transition to the new environment will be made easier by the presence of Coulson, who like him is equally adept at left wing or left full-back.

“As soon as I realized I had to move on I had a look at where I might like to go and hearing Scotty had signed at City it was certainly a factor in my decision.”

“We had played together for the past four years at Strikers and whenever we have played together I think we’ve been one of the stronger forces in the league down the left hand side.”

“So I guess we will be looking to implement the same thing next year and hopefully provide plenty of opportunities for the guys up front.”

Accustomed to being in the hunt for silverware during his time at Strikers, King added he is hoping to find similar success at City.

“Firstly, I play because I love the game but I also like to think of myself as pretty competitive on the field and I like to win.”

“City have recruited well in terms of players and the coaching structure and I think they will be pushing for top four if not winning the league or the double,” King concluded.

In other squad news, Strikers have also confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Fraser Chalmers to PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria club Hume City.
