Moreton Bay United have returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Northern Fury at Townsville Sports Reserve.

The visitors stormed out to a three goal advantage inside half an hour as Scott Stewart and Alex Janovsky added to an early own goal from the hosts.

Despite pulling a goal back early in the second stanza, hopes of a Fury comeback faded entering the final quarter hour when Nicholas Dunn was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

The win ends a three match winless run in the league for Jets and a two match losing streak in all competitions following their midweek exit from the Westfield FFA Cup.

For Fury, the result marks an eleventh straight defeat and sees them become just the second club in the competition’s history to conclude the first half of a season without a competition point.

What They Said

“I’m hoping we take away the last 45 minutes. If we can produce that on a regular basis for 90 minutes then we wouldn’t be in the position we are in. We just need to be more consistent, have a little more composure and start games well. At the moment we are very poor starters and the reason I do not know.” Ian Ferguson, Northern Fury FC coach

“It’s been a long overdue win for us. It was important to get the three points and the boys are knackered considering the week we’ve had. It’s getting that winning feeling back again and to be fair we had a lot of clear cut chances in the second half and if we had been fresher we would’ve taken them.“ – Adam Piddick, Moreton Bay United FC technical director
