He’s billed as the man to ‘cut down Tim Cahill’ and Brisbane Strikers defender Greig Henslee is welcoming the spotlight of tonight’s Westfield FFA Cup blockbuster.

Henslee has featured across print, television and radio in recent days as he prepares to go head-to-head with Cahill and fellow Melbourne City star Bruno Fornaroli in the Round of 16 match at Perry Park.

The 33-year-old experienced similar pressures in 2003 when his Arbroath FC met a Glasgow Rangers side featuring Craig Moore, Ronald de Boer and Claudio Caniggia in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

“I have been involved in a couple of games like this before, where you’re playing against one of the top teams in the country and it’s live on television,” Henslee said.

“The whole day is just filled with excitement and anticipation.

“The feeling that you get when you’re walking out on to the pitch and you’ve got the full stadium and the cameras are there, and you’re playing against the top players in the country – it’s such a good feeling and I can’t wait for Wednesday.

“The buzz is there regardless of whether you are 18 or 33.”

Henslee is expected to line-up alongside teenager Jake Marshall in defence as Strikers seek to replicate the feats of Redlands United in upsetting Hyundai A-League opposition.

Hoping to exploit City’s potential lack of match fitness, the veteran believes the “fantastic buzz” across the dressing room can translate into a result.

“This is literally what the FFA Cup is all about. This is exactly why it’s here,” he said.

“When you’re waiting for that draw to come out, to get the home tie and to get Melbourne City, who are one of the top A-League clubs in the country - and then the added bonus of Tim Cahill coming.

“This is absolutely everything that we could have hoped for.”
