Roar Give Bechar Chance To Fire

The NPL pathway is delivering results for Sunshine Coast FC Fire winger Nico Bechar, who has been invited to train with A-League club Brisbane Roar.

The French national has been training with the Roar since last Monday, and is relishing the opportunity to test his skills against some of the country's best footballers.

Having been involved with football since he was nine years old, Bechar has been part of Sunshine COast Fire for two seasons, and has also played in France and for RSC Anderlecht youth team in Belgium.

First Team Coach Kevin A’herne-Evans said he was pleased to see Bechar gain an opportunity to trial for an A-League side.

“Nico, for me, is the best player in the NPL. He certainly has the ability to play in the A-league and I’m sure if given the opportunity would thrive in that environment,” A’herne-Evans said.

“He is one of the reasons we all love football, his exhilarating style of play brings excitement to other players, coaches and most importantly, spectators.”

“It is a compliment that the Roar have identified the Fire for its brand of football, and is another indication that the NPL is a pathway to the A-League,” A’herne-Evans enthused.

So far Bechar has been training for about two hours each morning from 8:30am, including exercises and ball games.

“I hope I have been doing well so far but the training has really been at another level, with a lot of competition. There are three other professional players trailing this week; two from Melbourne Heart and one from the Celtics,” Bechar said.

If he impresses this week, Bechar will then be invited to participate in another trial when the Roar resume pre-season training in two weeks.
