This year Sunshine Coast Futsal Association introduced an Elite Futsal Academy offering players a chance to learn more about the tactical aspects of the game. Positions were offered to players that participated in the Finals Series of the 2012/2013 Summer Season as well as other Representative Futsal Players.

Academy Head Coach

Justin Morrison is the current SCFA Director of Coaching and has 20 years of playing experience representing the ISA Queensland Open Men’s Futsal Team for over a decade at the ISA National Futsal Championships as well as playing in the ISA National Futsal League in the mid to late nineties. Justin has had 13 years coaching experience at the highest level and is one of only four Coaches in Qld to hold an Advanced AFC Level One Futsal Coaching Certificate. Justin has coached the FFA Qld Open Women’s Futsal Team for the past 4 years. 

Academy Aim

The aim of the academy is to produce players that are capable of competing successfully at a representative level. This will be achieved by developing the players technical skills and tactical awareness through high intensity exercises and games.  

Academy players will be encouraged to pursue representative opportunities available through SCFA such as representing Queensland at the National Futsal Championships and Sunshine Coast Wave Futsal Teams in the Qld Summer Futsal League.

Academy Structure

Two of the main focuses of the academy are to improve Tactical knowledge and Technical ability whereby players will learn to play using some of the various formations and structures within the game of futsal in both attack and defence. An “Integrated Coaching Method” will be used throughout the Academy which means occasionally we will isolate an activity to emphasize a specific skill as well as use the specific skill in a live game situation. The training environment will utilise all the components of a futsal game such as team mates, opponents, ball, game related space/time and the Laws of the Game.

Participation numbers have been purposely kept to a minimum to allow maximum interaction with the Coaching Staff and ensure each player receives individual attention in order to perform to their maximum ability.

• Basic Rotation Systems
• Checked Runs to lose a Defender
• Multiple options of Escaping the Press

• Using Depth & Width of the Court
• Cutting inside to create passing options

Defence

• Closing the middle of the Court
• High Pressure Defence
• Full Court Pressing
• Blitzing a Player
• Zone Marking
• Man to Man Marking
• Marking in front of the Pivot/Target
• Showing the Line

Technique

• Sole of the foot control
• Body shape in Defence
• Shielding the Ball
• Passing Technique
• Shooting Technique
• Touch under Pressure
• Taking a touch away from the Defender
