Player interview with Sunshine Coast Futsal Goalkeeper & Coach Yoel Jogiono.

We caught up with Yoel to discuss his futsal background and asked him what it's like training with the current Futsalroos squad.

SCF: When did you first get involved with Futsal and how long have you been playing?

YJ: I first got involved in Futsal when I moved to Australia in 2006. It was new to me then and I got involved by playing in school teams in tournaments. From there I went on to represent in Regional and State teams. I've now been playing for 9 years.

SCF: You've just completed your first season of playing futsal with South Brisbane in the National Futsal League called the F League, what did you think of it?

YJ: I loved it. It was a great experience playing at the highest level in the country. Playing with and against the best players in Australia, can't get any better than that!

SCF: You've just been invited to Futsalroo Squad training, how have you found it so far and where do you think you need to improve?

YJ: Futsalroos training is another step above the National League. As you would expect, the training is very intense and the quality of players makes you want to step up even more, which I thrive on. The biggest feedback I got from the Australian coaches was to work on my technique. I've been working hard by doing extra curricular training sessions in my own time to improve my technique and give myself every opportunity to remain a regular in the Futsalroo training squad.

SCF: Aside from playing you're also forging a very promising Coaching career, who are some of the teams you are currently coaching and have coached in the past?

YJ: Coaching is another passion of mine. I love being able to pass on information to up and coming players to try and grow Futsal in Queensland. I have coached the Queensland Youth Women at the FFA National Championships, Sunshine Coast Open Women's Rep Team, South Brisbane Open Women's Team in the F League, South Brisbane Men's Development Squad, South Brisbane U16 Boys, South Brisbane Goalkeepers and most recently Queensland U16 Boys. I'm also currently coaching the Open Men and Women's teams for the University of Sunshine Coast who participate in both the Northern Uni Games and Australian Uni Games.

SCF: Most memorable moment on a Futsal court?

YJ: I probably have a couple as both coach and player. Coaching the Sunshine Coast Women's Team to a Craig Foster Cup win was great, but I think helping the South Brisbane Women's Team to the Grand Final of the F-league tops it off. As a player, winning the Craig Foster Cup in 2014 in a penalty shoot out was a great feeling as well as winning one of the Queensland derby rounds against Galaxy FC this year in the F-league.

SCF: You're coaching the formidable Qld 16 Boys in the 2016 FFA National Championships, how is the squad progressing so far and what are your expectations for the tournament?

YJ: The squad is looking very strong. I have a group of 20 boys who are all willing to work hard and make the team. I can only take 10 to Nationals, so it will be a hard decision. I believe this team has what it takes to go on and win the Nationals next year in 2016.

SCF: Best advice you can give a young player?

YJ: Keep pushing yourself to be the best you can. Soak in as much information from your coaches and ask questions!

SCF: What are your futsal plans for the near future?

YJ: I definitely want to continue playing in the F-league next year and I'm hoping to break into the Futsalroos team and play at an International level, maybe even at the World Cup next year!
