Panthers on the Prowl!

The club was established in 1997 as Ellesmere Port Panthers Basketball Club and was formed as the result of the very successful local High School basketball team. These teams, under the guidance of Mike Burton, had won every school national basketball event in their age group (both boys and girls) and wanted to develop their skills in the National club league. Kim Leedham and Jimmy McGinn then took on the coaching and managers role to move the club forward into the National league as the Ellesmere Port Panthers.

This club went on to become a high profile club amongst junior basketball winning 5 National League Championships and 6 National Trophies from 2001 - 2006. In the last season as Ellesmere Port Panthers the first ever U13 boys team finished 4th at Final Fours.

During the 2006-2011 seasons Ellesmere Port Panthers formed a partnership with the Cheshire Jets BBL team with a common goal of improving youth basketball by providing a performance pathway from junior to professional level. In doing this Ellesmere Port Panthers Basketball Club entered all competitions as Cheshire Junior Jets. During that time the club reach 5 National Finals and won 1 National Cup.

At the end of 2011 the partnership broke down, Ellesmere Port Panthers and Cheshire Jets seperated. Ellesmere Port Panthers played under the name Cheshire Juniors for the 2011-12 season and the Cheshire Jets formed their own junior National League Programme.

The club has rebranded as Cheshire Panthers to make the clubs name more distinguishable from local rivals, while aiming to continue to develop, establishing Panthers as one of the main driving forces in England Basketball once more!
