Jets edge Utulei Youth in men’s thriller 3-2

Pago Pago, American Samoa, Friday, February 26, 2010 — The Tafuna Jets edged Utulei Youth in a thrilling Futsal match at ASCC on Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Match Day 2 of the FFAS Men’s Futsal 2010.

In other games, Lion Heart edged Fagasa Youth 2-1 in another nail-biter while Pago Youth A beat their second division team, Pago B, 7-2.

On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, PanSa take on FC SKBC at 5:30 p.m.; Ilaoa & Toomata faces Black Roses at 7:30 and Lion Heart then plays Utulei Youth at 9:30.

Tuaoloina Leasiolagi broke the 2-2 draw with a game-winning goal just three minutes to spare in the very intense match between these two finalists of the FFAS 2009 5-a-side Outdoors competition.

Leasiolagi scored the winner on a rebound off of his team captain, and brother, Mafutaga Leasiolagi’s shot on goal that was expertly blocked by Utulei Youth goalie Peter Harrington.

But Harrington just missed putting a hand up to block Tuaoloina’s follow-up shot that hit the top left corner of the net.

The Jets were lucky earlier as they escaped an Utulei power-play when one of their best players, Sam Taulealo, received a red card with 1:30 to play in the first half.

Tuaoloina Leasiolagi had a hand in the first goal as he quickly got off a corner kick to Fevaea’i Tafito, who snuck past a defender and kneed it in for the first goal.

But five minutes later Jonathon Fa’avae split two defenders after at the top of the penalty area and then shot it past Jets’ goalie, Mathew Mariota for the equalizer.

In the second half, team captain Mafutaga Leasiolagi put his team up again with a 19-foot, left-legged shot on a rebound from a shot on goal by pal Natia Natia three minutes into the second half.

But again Utulei answered with Pesamino Victor tapping in a great cross from Fa’avae four minutes later for another equalizer.

Tama scored the winning goal with just two minutes to spare in this very intense match between two teams playing their first games of the Futsal season.

Tala Luvu put Lion Heart ahead four minutes into the match but Jason of Fagasa scored the equalizer with seven to play in the first half.

Pago B fought hard against their best team, going down 2-1 in the first half but a five-goal performance in the second half saw Pago A triumph 7-2.

They were led by Rambo Tapui’s double hat trick performance, scoring six of their seven goals.
