March Madness- Day 11 Highlights

Kolonia, Pohnpei- Day 11 of the 2012 Pohnpei Basketball March Madness Tournament saw Pool D #1 Kihdeleng and Pool C #2 SDA Dolphins go head to head in a battle for the four spots available in Group F. It started out with the Dolphins controlling the game with their heights controlling the boards and giving the Kihdeleng offence a hard time. After 3 periods of play, Kihdeleng had the advantage in the final period with their fast breaks and penetrations causing the Dolphins to commit fouls that put them on the free throw line. Kihdeleng took the glory with a 72-55 score. Vincent Malfin (#12) lead Kihdeleng in scoring with 17 pts and Jeffrey Malfin (#31) with 14 pts. Carlos (#22) and Anthony Brackett (#24) lead the Dolphins with 18 pts and 12 pts.
Other action saw Old School and Mojukese in a battle to survive and hopefully qualify for the quarter finals. In the first half of the match, Old School was up by a big margin. In the second half saw a different and very determined Mojukese team with their man-to-man defence causing Old School to commit turn-overs and came back within reach of 5 points at the end of the 3rd period. Old School would then regroup and came back into the game and secure the "W" with a 68-61 score. Loatis Seneres (#13) and Randy Germinaro (#25) had 12 pts and 15 pts to back up Fransisco Simram's (#5) 17 pts. Mojukese scoring machine Lery Kohper (#5) had 24 pts, Bryan (#8) and Akilino (#12) each shared 9 pts.
In the final match of Day 11 saw Awak Wolverine and Visual Impact. Wolverines suffered their first defeat in the tournament in over-time. Woverines were in control most of the game until 4:30 minutes in the final period, Visual Impact picked up their defence forcing the Wolverines to commit turn-overs and converting them. At the end of regulation, scores were tied at 68-68 with four consecutive free-throws previously missed by the Wolverines. In the extra period, Visual Impact took control of the game with their fast break plays and marking an 81-78 score. Jerry Robert (#13), Bradley Kohper (#21), and Josehp Artui (#6) each registered 10 pts to back up Mike's (#9) and Branson Kohper's (#24) 20 pts and 27 pts. With his tournament's hightest scoring, Ramsie Joab (#5) registered 31 pts, Maynard Louis (#6) with 12 pts, and Ron Amor (#12) and Amor Amor (#7) with 11 pts apiece.
