Referee's in Training
A FIBA Oceania Level 1 Referees Course is currently running at the Kosrae State Gym on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7pm. Given that recently a number of Kosare's accredited referees have moved off island, the state has been left short of trained referees. The visit of Expert Mr Ryan Burns has been seen as the perfect opportunity to have more Kosraen referees trained and accredited.
The course participants have been full of enthusiasm and have generated some excellent discussion regrading the rules and principles of the game.
Course presenter Ryan Burns said that "it's been running very well with good participation numbers which make the course more enjoyable for all."
After covering the theory of basketball refereeing, the referees will then be put through some 'on court' refereeing by offciating matches played by the Mens State Basketball Team.
"This will really test the referees out and give them a chance to practice their skills in a real game environment" said Mr Burns.
