Minute of Silence for the late President of the Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association

Before the 2009 National U22 Men's grand final players, officials and spectators took a minute of silence to pay respect to the late President of the Raiwaqa Basketball Association Mr. Tevita Tuimabualau at Ed's court, Raiwaqa. Mr. Tevita Tuimabualau better known as Techie was described in the Fiji Times as a man for Raiwaqa. He was a long-serving president of Raiwaqa basketball right up until he died. He was a former Suva city councillor, chairman of the board of the Raiwaqa health centre and a member of the board of the Fiji Sports Council. He was a mover and shaker in the literal sense of the word. Te and his other friends from the Raiwaqa community later broke away from the Suva Basketball Association and started up the Raiwaqa Basketball Confederation and ran a separate competition on Ed's court which he upgraded with the sweat of Raiwaqa youths. Months before the 2003 South Pacific Games, he learnt that the games council needed two venues to be training courts for teams before they played at the national gymnasium. He lobbied for Ed's court and through his connection with the city council, Ed's court was further upgraded with a roof and toilets for men and women.

From there, Raiwaqa basketball blossomed from the inter-lane competition to where it is now.

May your soul rest in peace.
