Lautoka basketball draws interest

THE Lautoka Basketball Association has been overwhelmed with the response from the clubs during its local league competition.

This has prompted the association to hold a confederacy tournament on December 5.

The tournament will serve as a preview to the National Club Championship which will be held in the Sugar City on December 12.

LBA official Simi Cagilaba said the three confederacies of Kubuna, Tovata and Burebasaga will be represented during the tournament.

He said each confederacy will field two teams.

"This is the first time we are holding a confederacy tournament," Cagilaba said.

"The three confederacies will participate in the event. We have also allocated a spot for Rotuma.

"This tournament will set the platform for the staging of the National Club Championship which will be played a week later."

The LBA and Basketball Fiji are inviting interested teams to the National Club Championship on December 12.

Clubs from Raiwaqa and Suva have shown interest in the tournament scheduled for December.

The organisers are eyeing a 24 team tournament with 16 men's teams and eight women's teams.

Registration fee $150 and only 16 mens and eight womens teams will be accommodated. Regist-rations close on December 4.

The Lautoka local league continued yesterday.

In an exciting affair Yungsters and Saints drew 39-all. Saints led 13-11 at half time.

In the first match, Cougars defeated Saints by default.

In the women's match Vikings went down to Young Divas 36-16.

Young Divas led 23-7 at the break.
